The Letní Letná international festival of contemporary circus and theater is Czech Republic’s best known showcase of contemporary circus. Every year since 2002, it brings top-notch performances of both Czech and international contemporary-circus companies to Letenské Sady in Prague. Only in 2011 when two new festivals with a similar orientation sprang up – Cirk-UFF in Trutnov and Cirkul’art in Bratislava – Letní Letná lost the position of the only contemporary-circus festival in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Throughout its history, the festival presented such renowned French companies as Cirque Ici, Cahin Caha, Les Colporteurs, Cirque Baroque, Malabar, Cirque Trottola but also Czech performances by La Putyka, Divadlo Continuo, Décalages – Theater in Motion, Divadlo bratříFormanů, T.E.J.P., Cirkus Mlejn, Krepsko and others.
In the last two weeks of August, Letní Letná offers a program with over 90 performances: up to 5 children’s shows a day and performances for adults in the evening. There’s also a festival kindergarten, concerts, debates and free shows.
The festival is organized by the Gaspard civic associtaion. Letní Letná is supported by the City of Prague, the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, Prague 7 and many other partners under the auspices of the Mayor of Prague.
